In a significant development for the Philippine beauty scene, Rissa Mananquil Trillo has been appointed as the editor-in-chief of Allure Philippines, marking the imminent launch of its local edition set for March 2025. This strategic move comes through a license agreement between Condé Nast and Mega Global Licensing Inc., aiming to elevate the beauty discourse within the Filipino community.
Rissa Mananquil Trillo is no stranger to the beauty and fashion industry. Her career began as a prominent model in the Philippines, where she not only garnered acclaim but also took on a leadership role as the president of the Professional Models Association of the Philippines for five years. Following her successful modeling career, she transitioned into the media sector, contributing for several years to the widely read national broadsheet, The Philippine Star.
In 2013, Rissa co-founded Happy Skin, a beauty brand that gained popularity for its innovative approach to cosmetics tailored for the Filipino market. She actively participated in steering the company’s vision until her departure in 2021. Her entrepreneurial achievements were recognized through awards from prestigious organizations such as EY’s Entrepreneur of the Year and Go Negosyo. Notably, her insights and experiences were compiled in her book, “Read My Lips: What It Takes to Be a World-Class Homegrown Brand,” published in 2019.
Archie Carrasco, chairman and CEO of Mega Global Licensing Inc., expressed his enthusiasm about Rissa’s appointment. “Rissa’s expertise and commitment to both beauty and advocacy will undoubtedly make Allure Philippines a source of inspiration and authority for our audience,” he stated. Carrasco leads a media group that already boasts a robust portfolio, including local adaptations of renowned international titles such as Vogue Philippines and Nylon Manila.
The forthcoming Allure Philippines will be distinguished as the third edition globally, following the US and South Korean adaptations. Targeted at the rapidly growing beauty market in the Philippines, the magazine will be published in English and be available in print, digital, and social formats. Rissa plans to guide the magazine towards becoming a beacon of beauty expertise for Filipinos, emphasizing authentic representation.
“What excites me most is the power of beauty to influence change,” says Rissa. She envisions that through Allure Philippines, she can foster a narrative that promotes wellness, diversity, and social responsibility within the beauty sphere. “We won’t just be reporting on beauty — we’re actively shaping it for the next generation,” she adds, underlining her commitment to use this platform as a means of empowerment.
The launch of Allure Philippines indicates a broader trend in the beauty industry, where localized content is becoming crucial in capturing diverse demographics. This shift not only speaks to the need for authenticity but also reflects the desires of Filipino consumers who increasingly prefer products and content that resonate with their cultural identity.
Beauty advocates and industry watchers are keen to see how Rissa will integrate her extensive knowledge and values into the magazine, particularly in a market that is becoming more conscious about inclusivity and sustainability. The success of her previous endeavors suggests a promising future for Allure Philippines under her leadership.
As Rissa prepares to take on her new role, the anticipation surrounding Allure Philippines builds—a magazine poised to not only celebrate beauty but also to redefine how it is perceived and engaged with in a Filipino context.
