China leads in genAI patents, US in advanced AI, says WIPO report

In a recent report, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) highlighted significant trends in the Artificial Intelligence (AI) sector over the past decade. With 54,000 Generative AI (GenAI) inventions recorded, China’s contribution stands out prominently, registering over 38,200 patents compared to nearly 6,300 from the United States. This surge, especially marked in the last year, underscores China’s advances in GenAI.

On the other hand, the United States has carved its niche in advanced AI technologies, reflecting a competitive landscape in global AI development. These figures not only illustrate the differing areas of focus between the two powers but also raise questions about future technological leadership and international collaborations. The statistics offer a quantitative glimpse into a rapidly growing field, suggesting where businesses and innovators might look next for groundbreaking developments. Understanding these trends is crucial for staying ahead in an increasingly AI-driven world.
