The research team from the University of Peradeniya Sri Lanka introduced a 99.99% effective reusable nano mask against the Covid-19 and other major viruses. The team names the mask Respirone AV99. According to the head of the research team Professor Gamini Rajapaksha, this mask has three-layer protection against the virus.
Respirone AV99 outer layer is ultra hydrophobic and made by using 100% cotton. This nanolayer protects the person from others’ spits, dust, and water particles . The middle layer is called the virucidal filter layer. This layer uses specially modified woven cotton and a chemical solution for killing the virus instantly. All the used materials for this layer are human-friendly and generally use in the textile industry, so there is no risk of inhaling these particles. The inner layer is also made of 100% cotton. This soft and hydrophilic layer absorbs moisture and creates a comfortable breathing experience for the person who wears the Respirone AV99 mask.
Because of nanotechnology in the mask, this can be reusable 25 times after washing without compromising the filter quality. According to the tests conducted by Medical Faculty, Peradeniya University revealed mask destroyed 99.99% of viruses relying on the face mask. On the normal face mask, the Covid-19 virus survives around for about 7days. The research team also says the samples of this product sent to the Manchester University for further clarifications.
The Respirone Av99 mask is currently available in the domestic market, around 1$. The research team and Sri Lankan Trade Ministry now work to introduce the Respirone AV99 mask to the global market.
