The Wellness Brand Betting on ‘Female Viagra’

Hello Cake, a Los Angeles-based startup specializing in sexual wellness products, is pioneering a new approach to female sexual health with its latest offerings. With the launch of prescription medications designed for female sexual dysfunction, the brand aims to fill a significant gap in a market traditionally focused on male needs. The new product line includes a tablet and a topical cream, O-Cream, which utilizes Sildenafil, the same active ingredient found in Viagra, to enhance vaginal sensitivity.

This move is part of a broader trend in the sexual wellness industry, where companies like Wisp, Maude, and Olly are increasingly addressing female sexual health. According to McKinsey, the U.S. wellness market is projected to be worth $480 billion and is expected to grow by 5-10% annually. Notably, female sexual health products were among the top purchases in 2023, trailing only menstrual care.

Mitch Orkis, co-founder of Hello Cake, emphasizes the long-standing neglect of female sexual health solutions, mentioning that historically, billions have flowed into male-focused treatments while female options remain limited. Currently, only two medications are FDA-approved for treating female sexual dysfunction, which presents a stark contrast to the extensive options available for men.

Consumer feedback has driven Hello Cake to pivot its business model towards pharmaceuticals, with one-third of its revenue now stemming from these prescriptions. With products priced affordably at $54 for six doses compared to $742 and $1,000 for existing female treatments, Hello Cake is poised to lead in market share.

Hello Cake’s commitment to educating consumers about their sexual health will be crucial as they continue to support women’s well-being, aiming to create a proactive approach to female pleasure and health. As more companies innovate within this space, the future of women’s sexual wellness looks promising.
