The renowned work of Irving Penn, a significant figure in 20th-century photography, is set to be showcased in Spain, thanks to the initiative of Marta Ortega Pérez, chairwoman of Inditex. The MOP Foundation, led by Ortega, will host the retrospective titled “Irving Penn: Centennial,” previously exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 2017. This remarkable exhibition will take place in A Coruña, the birthplace of Inditex and home to the fashion giant Zara, from November 2024 to May 2025.
Irving Penn is recognized for his meticulous craftsmanship and distinctive minimalism that redefined photographic art. Described by the MOP Foundation as a creator who pursued perfection, Penn’s work exemplifies an unerring attention to detail that resonates with both traditional and contemporary audiences. The exhibition will also feature a re-release of the original exhibition catalogue in Spanish, encompassing over 300 of his iconic works, offering deeper insights into his artistic journey.
The MOP Foundation previously organized similar exhibitions spotlighting other luminaries in the photography realm, including Helmut Newton and Peter Lindbergh. This commitment to celebrating artistic excellence highlights the foundation’s role in elevating cultural dialogue within the fashion and art communities. The arrival of the Penn exhibition in Spain marks an enriching opportunity for art enthusiasts and the general public to engage with the legacy of one of photography’s greatest masters.
